More of us are active than ever. Not everyone is sharing in it.

There is good news in Sport England’s latest Active Lives survey, published in April 2026. Covering November 2024 to November 2025, it found that more adults in England are active than at any time since the survey began in 2015.

The good news

  • 64.6% of adults, around 30.9 million people, are active, doing at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week.
  • That is 859,000 more active adults than the year before.
  • Fitness activities and running have grown, and walking has held at its high level.

The gap

But not everyone is sharing in it. Around 11.8 million adults, 24.7%, are still less active, doing under 30 minutes a week. And the differences between groups are large:

  • 53.8% of the least affluent adults are active, compared with 73.2% of the most affluent.
  • 49.1% of disabled people and people with long-term health conditions are active.
  • 44.3% of adults aged 75 and over are active.
  • 62.2% of women are active, compared with 67.3% of men.

Sport England also found that the gap between the most and least deprived areas has widened.

What helps people get moving

  • Start small. Walking counts, and a ten-minute walk is a real start.
  • Make it social. People keep going when someone is expecting them.
  • Make it fit real life. Plans that work around shifts, childcare and budgets last longer than plans built for someone else.
  • Remove the cost barrier where you can. Free walks, parks and community sessions matter.

Where VYVE fits

The biggest reasons people are less active, including money, time, health conditions and where they live, need action from government, local areas, the NHS, sport and charities. VYVE will not close that gap on its own.

What we can do is make starting easier. VYVE’s Body pillar gives members personalised training and running plans from qualified personal trainers, with an AI Coach in between, plus community walks and run clubs at every level and every pace.

We also built Give Back into every membership: every 30 activities a member logs funds a free month of VYVE for someone referred by one of our charity partners. It is a small part of making proactive health something everyone can reach, not just people who can afford it.

The next Active Lives report is due in April 2027. We hope the gap is smaller by then.
